Job Title: Solaris System Administrator
Responsibilites:

- As member of the NJDOL technical Staff assist in the daily operations and maintenance of a 20+ Sun Enterprise Server data center. Administer Web, Directory, E-mail, and Application Servers. Develop and implement scripts to automate and monitor services. Perform daily backups, system troubleshooting, and hardware installation/upgrades and repairs as needed. Harden systems, enact and maintained recommended security precations, install digital certificates for SSL transactions, monitor patch levels, and make sure make sure necessary software packages are installed. Also, do OS and application performance tuning as recommended and/or required, and provide additional support to Department's Help Desk and Program Areas.
- Assist with the training of junior colleagues and in helping them acheive the knowledge necessary to perform daily task with minimal outside support.
- Installed and Configured Iplanet(Sun One)Directory, Messaging, Enterprise and Application servers, and developed a Department wide e-mail migration plan for 4000+ users in central and field locations.
- Developed two web based applications which allowed NJ citizens to file for Unemployment Benefits and Make Wage and Hour rate requests via the internet, saving the Department an estimated $50,000+ in outside vendor costs and constituting 40% of all new Unemployment claims filed in New Jersey.
- Act as NJDOL technical contact person and liaison between Other State Agencies, Program Areas, and Vendors and Consultants. Do weekly reports and address any technical or operational issues that arise between the various areas.
- Support mission critical applications such as OSOS(One Stop Operating System), Unemployment Insurance Tax System, Workers Compensation COURTS-online, ACES(Appeals Computerized Entry System), NJDirect (State Directory) and WNJPIN.net and JEFF (Jersey Economic Fact Finder) web sites.
